CTP Certificates in Queensland

Queensland has a common law ‘fault’ based CTP scheme. Under Motor Accident Act 1994, the CTP Greenslip insurance policy covers for unlimited liability for personal injury caused by an insured motor vehicle in accident   For the injured third party, it provides access to common law, where the injured person has a right to approach a law court to seek monetary compensation from the person 'at fault' for the personal injury and other related losses. As a fault based scheme, it requires proof of liability, i.e. the injured party must be able to establish negligence against an owner or driver of a motor vehicle. Consequently, circumstances can arise, e.g. where a driver is wholly at fault in an accident cannot obtain compensation because there is no negligent party against whom a claim can be made.

The Motor Accident Insurance Commission (MAIC) regulates and monitors the scheme and is underwritten by private licensed insurers . 

CTP insurance is compulsory and a condition of motor vehicle registration in the state of Queensland. The cost of applicable CTP insurance is already included on your renewal notice or Registration notice. 

To register a vehicle in Queensland you will need to go to a Department of Transport and Main Roads customer service centre or, if you live in a rural area, a Queensland Government Agency Program office, a Magistrate Court or your local police station.
